JOHN 3:15-16 & 5:24
So that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
I JOHN 5:20
And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation.
SCRIPTURE TEXT—JOHN 17:3
This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
I. THIS IS ... ETERNAL, EVERLASTING LIFE
John 5:24 - "HAS" eternal life - a *present position* NOW for saved
All human beings have a spirit that will live forever...but this is not the same as eternal life
Matthew 25:46 - Christ speaks: "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
II. THAT THEY MAY *KNOW* YOU
KNOW = ginOskOsin [Greek] - meaning not just casual or head knowledge, rather 1) personal, 2) intimate, 3)present tense -> continual & ongoing
Matthew 7:21-23 - Does HE know you?
Believe & repent are *not* separable
III. THE ONLY *TRUE* GOD, & JESUS CHRIST WHOM YOU HAVE SENT
Not just quality, but quantity
There are many "gods" in the world, but only *one* TRUE God
John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."
We who are saved are *adopted* into the family of God - now His true children
We must use our time on this planet to be GRATEFUL, to serve God. We ought to be the MOST GRATEFUL people on the planet... and it ought to show! God can use this - people may ask about the HOPE that is in you. (I Peter 3:15 - be ready with an answer)
