Scripture Readings

EPHESIANS 5:8-10, 5:15-17
For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

EPHESIANS 6:10-11, 6:13
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

PHILIPPIANS 3:10, 4:13
That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

JUDE 1:5, 1:24
Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy.

SCRIPTURE TEXT—1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-13
For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play.” Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents. Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

NOTES:

Life, as a Christian, will be full of tests, and with those come the temptations. God sends the tests, the temptation of how to respond to the tests is up to you.

I. v. 1-4 - ALL under the cloud, ALL passed through, ALL were baptized, ALL ate, ALL drank ... ; They had an edge--they had a ROCK following them, that is Christ! Do YOU have an edge? II Peter 1:3-4 Our Edge!

II. v. 5-10 - God was not pleased and struck them down. Galatians 6:7-8 - Happened as examples to us of consequences for sin

READ: Numbers 11:1 not content, Exodus 31 idolators, Numbers 25 sexual immorality, Numbers 21 serpents, Numbers 16:41-end and afterward grumbles!

III. v. 11-13 - Must do things in the Spirit or anything else POOF, it burns up. Acts 5 - written for our instruction. If you think you're standing tall (on your own strength), you will fall. Can't do WHY ME ... these things are common to *everyone*, and God is FAITHFUL (repeat over & over!). You *can* live a godly life - He expects you to, He enables you to.

God sends the tests. The temptation is to not bear up under it. God is in charge of all we face. He will provide THE Way of escape from temptation (not just "a" way!). The way of escape often means He will take us THROUGH the trouble. Philippians 4:13 - ALL THINGS in the will of God

Say NO to temptations and YES to God.
